A Deeper Dive

Technology & Use Case
Ocean Protocol runs its own data marketplace on a blockchain. Data providers can sell access to data in a secure, privacy-safe way, and buyers—like researchers or AI developers—can purchase it directly using OCEAN tokens.
Origins & Team
Ocean Protocol was founded in 2017 by Bruce Pon and Trent McConaghy. Bruce Pon, also the co-founder of blockchain startup BigchainDB, helped create Ocean to give people and organizations more control over their data and a way to earn from sharing it.
Ecosystem & Partnerships
Ocean supports innovative data models like data NFTs and Compute-to-Data, which let data stay secure while still usable by AI and analytics systems Ocean Protocol. More recently, it merged into the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance (ASI)—combining forces with SingularityNET and Fetch.ai to push shared AI and data infrastructure forward.
