Curve CRV

Token swaps and governance.

Curve provides token-exchange services using liquidity pools. CRV is a governance token associated with the protocol.

What is Curve?

Curve lets users exchange assets through smart contracts and pooled liquidity. Locking CRV creates vote-escrowed CRV, called veCRV, which carries governance power. Holding CRV and providing liquidity are separate activities.

Pool assets can lose value, and smart-contract risks remain. Locked CRV cannot simply be transferred or withdrawn before its lock ends.

Why people pay attention

Pools provide assets used for swaps.

  • Governance

Locked CRV provides voting power through veCRV.

  • Separate positions

A liquidity-pool position is different from holding CRV.

Origins & development

Curve introduced its vote-escrow governance model in 2020. Its exchange services and token-governance arrangements are related but distinct.
