What is ApeCoin?
ApeChain is an Arbitrum Orbit chain that uses APE as its native gas token. APE is separate from Bored Ape NFTs and from ownership of companies associated with the ecosystem. Application access and benefits depend on each service’s rules.
Do not assume historical DAO voting or reward programs remain current. Bridges, applications, changing access rules, and token-price volatility can cause losses.

Origins & development
ApeCoin was already being adopted by ecosystem partners in March 2022. Its role later expanded to gas on ApeChain. Older governance descriptions require care because the operating model has changed over time.
